When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 We have come to thee with the truth, and assuredly we speak truly. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 “And fear Allah and do not disgrace me.” 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 And thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at the time of sunrise, 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
