When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
