The Cave (Al-Kahf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. 1 A just Book, to warn of Allah’s severe punishment, and to give glad tidings to the believers who do good deeds, that for them is an excellent reward. 2 wherein they shall abide for ever; 3 Furthermore, [this divine writ is meant] to warn all those who assert, "God has taken unto Himself a son." 4 (A thing) whereof they have no knowledge, nor (had) their fathers, Dreadful is the word that cometh out of their mouths. They speak naught but a lie. 5 Yet it may be, if they believe not in this statement, that thou (Muhammad) wilt torment thy soul with grief over their footsteps. 6 Surely We have made all that is on the earth an embellishment for it in order to test people as to who of them is better in conduct. 7 and, verily, [in time] We shall reduce all that is on it to barren dust! 8 Deemest thou that the people of the cave and the inscription were of Our signs a wonder? 9 Recall what time the youths betook themselves to the cave, then said: our Lord! vouchsafe unto us mercy from before Thee, and prepare for us in our affair a right course. 10 Then We caused them to fall into a deep sleep for many years inside the cave. 11 We then awakened them to see which of the two groups more accurately tells the period they had stayed. 12
