Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he quietly called his Lord 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
