Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
