Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
