The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
