To Moses we also revealed: 'Set forth with My worshipers by night and strike for them a dry path in the sea. Do not fear that you will be overtaken, neither be afraid' 77 Then Fir'awn followed them with his hosts; and there came upon them of the sea that which came upon them. 78 And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) led his people astray, and he did not guide them. 79 Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy and promised to settle you on the right side of the peaceful Mount Tur (Sinai) and We sent you manna and quails. 80 Eat of the good things We have given you for sustenance, and be not inordinate with respect to them, lest My wrath should be due to you, and to whomsoever My wrath is due be shall perish indeed. 81 And verily I am the Most Forgiving unto whomsoever repenteth and believeth and worketh righteously, and thereafter letteth himself remain guided. 82 ۞ "But, O Moses, what has made you come in haste from your people?" 83 He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." 84 But God said, "We have tested your people in your absence. The Samiri has led them astray." 85 Then Moses returned very angry and sorrowful to his people, saying, 'My people, did your Lord not promise a fair promise to you? Did the time of the covenant seem so long to you, or did you desire that anger should alight on you from your Lord, so that you failed in your tryst with me?' 86 They answered, "We did not break our promise to you of our own accord, but we had to carry loads of the people's ornaments and so we threw them [into the fire] for that was what the Samiri suggested," 87 (Then he brought out for them a Calf, a mere body that lowed; and they said, 'This is your god, and the god of Moses, whom he has forgotten.' 88 What? Did they not see that thing returned no speech unto them, neither had any power to hurt or profit them? 89
