And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order." 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 Then Moses asked Aaron, "What made you not follow me when you saw them in error? 92 from following me? Why did you disobey my command?" 93 'Son of my mother,' Aaron said, 'take me not by the beard, or the head! I was fearful that thou wouldst say, "Thou hast divided the Children of Israel, and thou hast not observed my word." 94 Moses said: "What, then, is your case, O Samiri?" 95 'I beheld what they beheld not,' he said, 'and I seized a handful of dust from the messenger's track, and cast it into the thing. So my soul prompted me.' 96 Moses said, "Begone! It shall be your lot to say throughout your life, "Do not touch me," and you will be faced with a fate from which there will be no escape. Now look at your deity to which you have become so devoted: we shall burn it up, and then scatter it into the sea. 97 Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge." 98 (O Muhammad), thus do We recount to you the events of the past, and We have bestowed upon you from Ourself an admonition. 99 All who shall turn away from it will, verily, bear a [heavy] burden on the Day of Resurrection: 100 which they shall bear forever. It will be a grievous burden for them on the Day of Judgement, 101 The Day when the Trumpet will be sounded: that Day, We shall gather the sinful, blear-eyed (with terror). 102 Murmuring among themselves: Ye have tarried but ten (days). 103 We know best what they say, when the fairest of them in course would say: You tarried but a day. 104
