The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Nigh unto men has drawn their reckoning, while they in heedlessness are yet turning away; 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 diverted their hearts. The evildoers whisper one to another, 'Is this aught but a mortal like to yourselves? What, will you take to sorcery with your eyes open?' 3 He said: "My Lord knows well all that is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He is All-Hearing, All- Knowing." 4 But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]." 5 Not a city before them which We destroyed believed; will they then believe? 6 (O Muhammad), even before you We never sent any other than human beings as Messengers, and to them We sent revelation. Ask the People of the Book if you do not know. 7 Nor did We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they exempt from death. 8 Then We were true to the promise, We saved them together with those whom We willed, and destroyed the transgressors. 9 We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason? 10
