The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ CLOSER DRAWS unto men their reckoning: and yet they remain stubbornly heedless [of its approach]. 1 Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it, but do not take it seriously; 2 In sport being their hearts. And those who do wrong keep secret their private discourse this is but a human being like unto yourselves; will ye then betake yourselves to magic while ye know? 3 He says: 'My Lord knows what is said in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.' 4 Rather they said, “These are confused dreams, but in fact he has fabricated it – but in fact he is a poet; so he must bring us some sign, like those who were sent before.” 5 There is not a township before them which did not believe which We have not destroyed; so will they believe? 6 And We did not send (Prophets) before you except men, to whom We sent divine revelations – therefore, O people, ask the people of knowledge if you do not know. 7 and neither did We endow them with bodies that could dispense with food nor were they immortal. 8 Then we fulfilled the promise unto them. So we delivered them and whom We would, and We destroyed the prodigals. 9 We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? 10
