۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
