۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
