۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
