۞ And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 We appointed them as leaders to guide the people through Our command and sent them revelation to strive for good deeds, worship their Lord, and pay religious tax. Both of them were Our worshipping servants. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
