۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
