۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
