I told them, "Messengers, eat from the pure things and act righteously; I know all that you do. 51 And lo! this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, so keep your duty unto Me. 52 But then they divided up their order into different creeds, each section rejoicing in what it had come to have. 53 So leave them to their ignorance for a time. 54 Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children 55 We [but want to] make them vie with one another in doing [what they consider] good works? Nay, but they do not perceive [their error]! 56 Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord 57 And those who believe in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord, 58 Who do not associate any one with their Lord, 59 And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;- 60 It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them. 61 And we task not any soul beyond its scope, and with Us is a Record which speaketh the truth, and they will not be wronged. 62 Yet their hearts are oblivious of this; and besides, they are busy with other things, 63 Till when We grasp their luxurious ones with the punishment, behold! they supplicate. 64 (It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us. 65 For when My revelations were read out to you, you turned back on your heels and fled 66 “Priding yourself in serving the Sacred Mosque; at night you utter indecent stories in it, while discarding the truth.” 67 Did they never ponder over this Word (of God)? Or has he (to wit, the Messenger) brought something the like of which did not come to their forefathers of yore? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 Or do they say that there is madness in him? Nay, he has brought them the Truth and it is the Truth that most of them disdain. 70 And if the truth had been in accordance with their desires, verily, the heavens and the earth, and whosoever is therein would have been corrupted! Nay, We have brought them their reminder, but they turn away from their reminder. 71 Or dost thou ask them for tribute? Yet the tribute of thy Lord is better, and He is the best of providers. 72 (Muhammad), you certainly have called them to the right path, 73 And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are from the path deviating. 74 ۞ If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion. 75 And indeed We seized them with punishment, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke (Allah) with submission to Him. 76 until We opened upon them the door of a severe chastisement. Then lo, in this state they become utterly despaired of any good. 77
