HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 the nation of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Me' 11 He said, “My Lord, I fear that they will deny me.” 12 "And my breast straitens, and my tongue expresses not well. So send for Harun (Aaron) (to come along with me). 13 As for me, they hold the charge of a crime against me. I fear they will put me to death." 14 He said: "Certainly not! So go both of you with Our Signs. We shall be with you listening to everything. 15 They came to the Pharaoh and said, "We are the Messengers of the Lord of the Universe. 16 Then send with us the children of Israel. 17 (Firon) said: Did we not bring you up as a child among us, and you tarried among us for (many) years of your life? 18 You spent many years of your life among us and then you committed that deed of yours. You are very ungrateful indeed." 19 (Moses) replied: "I did do that and I was in the wrong, 20 Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord bestowed on me wisdom and made me one of the sent ones. 21 Is this then the blessing with which you reproach me, that you have the Children of Israel for worshipers' 22 The Pharaoh asked: "And what is the Lord of all the worlds?" 23 (Moses) said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye had but sure belief. 24 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Do you not hear (what he says)?" 25 (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!" 26 Pharaoh said to the audience: "This Messenger of yours who has been sent to you is simply mad." 27 Moses said, "He is the Lord of the East and the West, and all that lies between them, if only you could understand." 28 Said he, 'If thou takest a god other than me, I shall surely make thee one of the imprisoned.' 29 (Moses) said: "Even though I have brought to you something convincing?" 30 Pharaoh said: "Then bring it if you are truthful at all." 31 He cast down his staff and thereupon it was a clear serpent. 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it appeared white to the onlookers. 33
