Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him, "Surely this man is a skilful sorcerer. 34 Who wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery. Now what do you advise?" 35 They said: "Detain him and his brother for a while and send forth heralds to the cities 36 "And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a set time on a day made known. 38 And the people were also asked to assemble. 39 so that we might follow [in the footsteps of] the sorcerers if it is they who prevail?" 40 Then when the magicians came, they said unto Fir'awn: will there surely be a big hire for us if we are the winners? 41 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 42 Moses said to them: 'Cast down what you cast' 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs, and said, "By Pharaoh's honour, we shall surely win." 44 Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived. 45 The magicians therefore fell down prostrate. 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said he: You believe in him before I give you permission; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you the magic, so you shall know: certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and certainly I will crucify you all. 49 They said: It is no hurt, for lo! unto our Lord we shall return. 50 "Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]." 51
