Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said, “Do you see these (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 Do not betray me 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
