And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
