Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and prepared goblets, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
