And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
