And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
