Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
