And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 "Or do they benefit you or harm you?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 "And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity." 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 "The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons." 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
