Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 no caring friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
