The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
