The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
