(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens, and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
