The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
