The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
