[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and springs. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
