(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
