Thamud denied the messengers 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
