The dwellers of the wood belied the sent ones. 176 When Shu'eyb said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 177 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 178 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 179 And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ "Maintain just measure in your business and do not cause loss to others. 181 And weigh with an even balance. 182 do not defraud people of what is rightfully theirs; and do not spread corruption in the land. 183 Fear Him who created you, and the generations of the ancients.' 184 They replied, "You are bewitched. 185 And thou art but a human being like unto us, and we deem thee to be of the liars. 186 So cause thou a fragment of the heaven to fall upon us, if thou art of the truth-tellers. 187 He said: 'My Lord knows what you are doing' 188 But they gave him the lie. And thereupon suffering overtook them on a day dark with shadows: and verily, it was the suffering of an awesome day! 189 Surely, in this is indeed a sign; but most of them would not believe: 190 your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 191
