And indeed, the Qur'an is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds. 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe in it until they suffer the painful torment. 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 and then they will exclaim, "Could we have a respite?" 203 Do they wish Us then to hasten the punishment? 204 Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 Of what avail shall their enjoyment be to them? 207 And We did not destroy any town but it had (its) warners, 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 It was not the satans who brought it down: 210 for, neither does it suit their ends, nor is it in their power [to impart it to man]: 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And be kind and humble to the believers who follow you. 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 And put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you stand up. 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 Shall I declare unto you upon whom the satans descend! 221 They come down on every guilty impostor. 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
