The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ The people of Nuh (Noah) denied (their Messenger) before them, they rejected Our slave, and said: "A madman!" and he was insolently rebuked and threatened. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
