And a sign unto them is the dead land. We quicken it and thereout We bring forth grain, so that thereof they eat. 33 and produced therein grains from which they eat and established therein gardens of palms trees and vineyards and have made streams flow therein 34 that they might eat of its fruits. It was not their hands that made them. Will they not, then, give thanks? 35 Holy is He Who created all things in pairs, whether it be of what the earth produces, and of themselves, and of what they do not know. 36 And a sign unto them is the night. We draw off the day therefrom, and lo! they are darkened. 37 And the sun runs its course for its final destination; this is a command of the Almighty, the All Knowing. 38 And the moon -- We have determined it by stations, till it returns like an aged palm-bough. 39 It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming. 40 And a Sign for them is that We bore their race (through the Flood) in the loaded Ark; 41 And We have created for them of the like thereunto, so on them they ride. 42 And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved 43 unless it be a mercy from us, and as an enjoyment for a season. 44 And when it is said to them, 'Fear what is before you and what is behind you; haply you will find mercy' -- 45 Yet there never comes to them any sign of their Lord's signs, but they turn away from it. 46 And when it is said unto them: expend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: shall we feed those whom God Himself would have fed, if He listed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest. 47 And they say: "When will this promise (i.e. Resurrection) be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" 48 They await but one Shout, which will surprise them while they are disputing. 49 Then they would not be able to make a will, or go back to their people. 50
