And a sign for them is the dead land. We gave it life, and We brought forth from it grains, so that they eat thereof. 33 and [how] We make gardens of date-palms and vines [grow] thereon, and cause springs to gush [forth] within it, 34 So that they may eat of the fruit thereof, and their hands made it not. Will they not, then, give thanks? 35 Glory be to Him Who created pairs of all things, of what the earth grows, and of their kind and of what they do not know. 36 And there is a sign in the night for them. We strip off the day from it and they are left in darkness, 37 And the sun -- it runs to a fixed resting-place; that is the ordaining of the All-mighty, the All-knowing. 38 And the Moon,- We have measured for her mansions (to traverse) till she returns like the old (and withered) lower part of a date-stalk. 39 It behoves not the sun to overtake the moon, neither does the night outstrip the day, each swimming in a sky. 40 And a sign for them is that We carried their seed in the laden ship, 41 And We have created for them similar (vessels) on which they ride. 42 And if We will, We drown them, and there is no help for them, neither can they be saved; 43 unless it be by an act of mercy from Us and a grant of life for a [further span of] time. 44 When they are told, "guard yourselves against what is before you and what is behind you, in order that you may be shown mercy," [they turn away]. 45 Not a Sign comes to them from among the Signs of their Lord, but they turn away therefrom. 46 And when it is said unto them: expend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: shall we feed those whom God Himself would have fed, if He listed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest. 47 And they say: When will this promise be fulfilled, if ye are truthful? 48 They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing. 49 And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return. 50
