۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 Then, are we not to die 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
