Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 we are the rangers, 165 we are they that give glory. 166 They say, 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
