And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 Therefore turn away from them till a time, 174 And watch them, for they will soon see. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
