Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
