Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HA MIM. 1 This (Qur’an) is sent down from the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 2 a divine writ, the messages whereof have been clearly spelled out as a discourse in the Arabic tongue for people of [innate] knowledge, 3 good tidings to bear, and warning, but most of them have turned away, and do not give ear. 4 And they say, “Our hearts are covered against the affair you call us to, and there is deafness in our ears, and there is a barrier between us and you – therefore mind your own business, we are minding ours.” 5 Tell them, (O Prophet): “I am only a human being like you. It is revealed to me that your God is One God; so direct yourselves straight to Him, and seek His forgiveness. Woe to those who associate others with Allah in His Divinity, 6 who do not pay Zakah, and who deny the Hereafter. 7 As to those who have faith and do good works, surely theirs shall be a never-ending reward. 8
