Whatever misfortune befalls you is of your own doing, God forgives much, 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the ocean, (tall) as mountains. 32 If He willed, He could still the wind, and they would remain motionless on its surface. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful. 33 Or He may destroy them (by drowning) because of that which their (people) have earned. And He pardons much. 34 He knows all those who dispute His revelations. They will find no way to escape from (His torment). 35 Whatsoever you have been given is only this life's merchandise; but what is with God is better and more lasting for those who believe and place their trust in their Lord, 36 And those who shun the great sins and indecencies, and whenever they are angry they forgive. 37 who have pledged their obedience to the Lord, who are steadfast in prayer, who conduct their affairs with consultation among themselves, who spend for the cause of God out of what We have given them, 38 and when harmed they become victorious. 39 But [remember that an attempt at] requiting evil may, too, become an evil: hence, whoever pardons [his foe] and makes peace, his reward rests with God - for, verily, He does not love evildoers. 40 And indeed whosoever takes revenge after he has suffered wrong, for such there is no way (of blame) against them. 41 The way is only open against those who do wrong to the people, and are insolent in the earth wrongfully; there awaits them a painful chastisement. 42 To exercise patience and forgive (the wrong done to one) is the proof of genuine determination. 43
