Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Lo! We have appointed it a Lecture, in Arabic that haply ye may understand. 3 And surely it is in the original of the Book with Us, truly elevated, full of wisdom. 4 Can We ignore sending you the Quran just because you are a transgressing people? 5 And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples, 6 But never did a prophet come at whom they did not scoff. 7 so We destroyed men stronger in valour than they, and the example of the ancients passed away. 8 If you ask them: "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they will answer: "The Mighty and All-knowing created them," 9 Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and placed roads for you therein, that haply ye may find your way; 10 And He Who sends down water from the cloud according to a measure, then We raise to life thereby a dead country, even thus shall you be brought forth; 11 it is He who created all living things in pairs and gave you ships to sail in and beasts to ride upon 12 so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. 13 And to our Lord we shall surely return." 14 Yet they make some of His creatures His offspring! Man is surely most ungrateful. 15
