But as for anyone who chooses to remain blind to the remembrance of the Most Gracious, to him We assign an [enduring] evil impulse, to become his other self: 36 and they bar them from the Way, though they themselves think that they are guided. 37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! 38 Because of the harm you did, it would be of no benefit to you today, you are partners in the punishment. 39 CANST THOU, perchance, [O Muhammad,] make the deaf hear, or show the right way to the blind or to such as are obviously lost in error? 40 And if We take thee away, We surely shall take vengeance on them, 41 or We show you a part of that which We have promised them, for indeed We have power over them. 42 So hold thou fast unto that which has been revealed unto thee; surely thou art upon a straight path. 43 Verily it is a great source of eminence for you and your people, and soon you will be called to account concerning that. 44 And ask those We sent before you of Our messengers; have We made besides the Most Merciful deities to be worshipped? 45
