Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
