Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 therein every wise bidding 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
